September Library Curriculum

September is just about wrapped up and we are off and running in the library!  Here’s what we’ve been doing.

Kindergarten-  We learned how to enter the library calm and safe.  We are using our check-out sticks to help keep our library shelves orderly.  We are learning our computer check-out numbers and listening to stories!  We enjoyed Boomer Goes to School and A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee which were introduced through Sno-Isle Tumblebooks Kids Site.

First Grade- We learned how to enter the library calm and safe.  We are remembering how to use our check-out sites.  We also enjoyed Tumblebooks Kids Site and we read Bats at the Beach via the Document Camera.

Second Grade- We are now checking out TWO books!  One book is a book of our choice, the other is for the required month genre chapter book report.  The chapter book does not need to be returned to the library until the book report is finished in class.  The choice book needs to return to the library on library day (Monday’s).  Second graders are, for the first time, invited to participate in the “Great Gumball Challenge”.  For each chapter book a student reads, a gumball tracker is filled out and a gumball is added to the giant gumball machine!  At the end of December the class who has the most gumballs will receive ALL the gumball’s from the gumball machine!

Third Grade- We are enojoying Clementine by Sara Pennypacker as our read-aloud.  The “Great Gumball Challenge” is in full swing!  The library has introduced “The Cubs Library” blog!  We learned how to blog through a power-point presentation.

Fourth Grade- We are enjoying The Aurora-County All-Stars by Debora Wiles.  We looked at The Cubs Library blog and watched the power-point presentation on how to blog. We know our blog guideline and we are ready to blog!  Our first blog comment and book reviews have been added by fourth graders!

Fifth Grade-  The suspense is almost too much as we read Candle Man by Glenn Dakin!  We brushed up on our history knowledge through a “How Well Do You Know Your Government” trivia game.  The Cubs Library blog and blog guidelines were introduced.

Sixth Grade- A special privilege was given to this responsible sixth grade class.  These students are allowed to do their own book check-out.  We are reading Candle Man as our read-aloud.  We made our brains think with government trivia and learned how to blog.
